Leo Turini on Charles Leclerc's new contract with Ferrari
Famous Italian journalist Leo Turini, like most Ferrari fans, is happy for Charles Leclerc, whose contract extension was announced the day before in Maranello. Few doubt the talent of this driver, but it cannot be said that the Italian team's affairs are going well...
Charles Leclerc has extended his contract with Ferrari. The duration of the new agreements has not been specified; in these times, this is becoming the norm. However, the Monegasque will no longer be mentioned in the context of possible movements in the driver market, as Maranello is betting on stability.
In practice, this means that Leclerc will remain loyal to their alliance with Scuderia forever. Although, of course, it cannot be ruled out that everything may change in a year.
He debuted with Ferrari in 2019 and will soon set a new record for the duration of performances for this team. If his loyalty is rewarded with a championship win, it will only serve as a kind of bonus, although that is still a long way off.
My opinion about Charles is well known. I believe he is an incredibly talented driver, and it frustrates me that over all these years he has not had a car at his disposal that allows him to fight for the title. I also believe that if it weren't for Leclerc, this period in Ferrari's history would be even more joyless.
Moreover, I am convinced that he can and should work on his image and character. I believe his relationship with the team has not always been smooth. If you take on the role of a leader, you must remain one all the time, one way or another.
At the same time, I insist that there can be no doubt about his racing talents, just as there can be no doubt about his genuine attachment to Scuderia. Leclerc understands that if he becomes a world champion with Ferrari, it will significantly increase his value. Moreover, Charles is convinced of this, although, unfortunately, not everyone in Maranello and the surrounding areas understands it, which should also be noted.
Continuing the conversation about the situation in the driver market: it is clear that all the cards are in Max Verstappen's hands. Will he continue to race in Formula 1? Will he stay with Red Bull Racing? Does he have any other options for continuing his career? – for now, these questions remain unanswered.
