Magnussen is set to make his NASCAR Cup debut in San Diego.

Kevin Magnussen is set to make his debut in the NASCAR Cup Series later this month after being announced as part of Trackhouse Racing's special Project 91 entry in San Diego. The former Formula 1 driver and current competitor in the World Endurance Championship will pilot the No. 91 Chevrolet during the inaugural NASCAR Cup Series race at Naval Base Coronado on June 21. This event will be Magnussen's initial start in the NASCAR Cup series.

"I’m extremely excited and honored to have the chance to compete in NASCAR," expressed the Danish driver. "What Justin Marks and Trackhouse have created with Project 91 is exceptional, as it offers drivers from outside the NASCAR community the opportunity to compete at this level. I’m proud to have this chance."

Trackhouse founder Justin Marks stated that Magnussen is a perfect match for this initiative aimed at introducing internationally acclaimed drivers to NASCAR. "Kevin Magnussen is a global driver, which is one of the key aspects we seek for Project 91," he remarked. Magnussen joins a roster of Project 91 drivers that includes Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 Formula 1 world champion.
