"My passion for the team is immense."

Charles Leclerc has confessed that he received offers from competing teams before deciding to stay with Ferrari. The Monegasque driver returned to his hometown this week after signing a new contract with the Maranello team, putting an end to months of speculation regarding his long-term plans. When asked if other teams had approached him, he answered: "Yes, they did." When inquired about their identities, Leclerc smiled and said: "I’m not going to disclose who. They can reveal it if they wish, but for me, Ferrari was always the choice."

This revelation is noteworthy given the ongoing rumors connecting Leclerc with Aston Martin, Mercedes, and even Red Bull due to frustrations about Ferrari's inability to produce a championship-winning car. However, Leclerc reiterated that winning a title with Ferrari remains his main goal. "My passion for the team is immense," he stated. "But of course, as you mentioned, winning is important for every driver and it’s what we race for. Winning in red holds a very distinct feeling for me, and I have dedicated my years in Formula 1 to achieve it."

Leclerc did not provide details about the contract, such as whether it includes performance clauses or exit strategies if Ferrari does not become a title contender. "We haven’t managed to achieve that yet, at least not for a full season," he noted. "I cannot go into too much detail about the contract, so I can't comment, unfortunately, on the main question, but it is certainly part of those discussions."

The contract announcement has drawn renewed interest in Formula 1's evolving driver market, with several prominent names facing decisions about their futures. Lewis Hamilton, whose own contract with Ferrari runs until 2027, dismissed claims that he is already negotiating an extension. "No," the seven-time world champion replied when asked if talks for renewal had started. "I’ll have time for that later. I have plenty of time. I’m not thinking about it yet and I’m not negotiating it."

Meanwhile, Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman continues to wait for a potential opening at Scuderia. The highly regarded Brit is outperforming his experienced Haas teammate Esteban Ocon this season but claims he is not feeling impatient. "I don’t feel disappointed, I don’t feel unhappy," Bearman expressed. "Everything that’s happening now is part of my journey. I enjoy working with Haas, and I wouldn’t view continuing with them in 2027 as a setback. On the contrary, it’s a great opportunity."

However, when asked if he would still be at Haas next season, Bearman admitted: "I don’t know." Another key player in the market is Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion confirmed that Red Bull has already discussed extending his current contract beyond 2028. "Yes," Verstappen replied when asked about the team's approach. "But I haven’t signed a new contract in a while. That's normal." However, he is not in a rush to commit. "That’s not my biggest concern right now, because I have two more years," Verstappen stated. "I first need to decide if I want to extend beyond 2028. That’s why I’m in no hurry; otherwise, I would have signed a contract until 2040."
