"My affection for the team is immense."

Charles Leclerc has revealed that he had offers from competing teams before deciding to stay with Ferrari. The Monegasque driver returned to his hometown this week after signing a new contract with the Maranello team, putting an end to months of speculation regarding his future. When directly asked if he had received interest from rival teams, he responded, "Yes, there were." When inquired about the identities of those teams, Leclerc smiled and said, "I’m not going to disclose that. They can reveal it if they wish, but for me, Ferrari has always been the choice."

This revelation is noteworthy, considering ongoing reports that connect Leclerc to Aston Martin, Mercedes, and even Red Bull, amidst dissatisfaction with Ferrari’s inability to produce a championship-winning car. Nonetheless, Leclerc reiterated that his goal remains to win a title with Ferrari.

"My affection for the team is immense," he stated. "However, as you mentioned, winning is crucial for every driver, and it's what we compete for. Winning in red carries a unique feeling for me, and I have dedicated all my years in Formula 1 to achieving that."

Leclerc did not confirm specifics of the contract, such as whether it includes performance clauses or exit options if Ferrari fails to be a title contender. "We have not managed to achieve that yet, at least not over a full season," he remarked. "I cannot delve too deeply into the contract details, so unfortunately I can't comment on that main question, but it is certainly part of the discussions."

The announcement of his contract has sparked renewed interest in the evolving driver market in Formula 1, with several prominent names now facing decisions about their futures. Lewis Hamilton, whose current deal with Ferrari extends to 2027, dismissed claims that he is already in talks for another extension. "No," the seven-time world champion replied when asked if renewal discussions had started. "I’ll have time for that later. I have plenty of time. I’m not thinking about it yet, and I’m not negotiating."

Meanwhile, Ferrari junior Oliver Bearman continues to await a potential opportunity at Scuderia. The highly regarded Brit is outperforming experienced Haas teammate Esteban Ocon this season but insists he is not feeling impatient. "I don’t feel disappointed; I’m not unhappy," Bearman said. "Everything happening now is a part of my journey. I enjoy working with Haas, and I wouldn’t view continuing with them in 2027 as a negative. On the contrary, it’s a fantastic opportunity."

When asked about his status at Haas for next season, Bearman admitted, "I don’t know." Another significant player in the market is Max Verstappen. The four-time world champion confirmed that Red Bull has already discussed the possibility of extending his contract beyond 2028. "Yes," Verstappen said when asked if the team had approached him. "But I haven’t signed a new contract in some time. That’s normal." For now, however, he is not rushing to make a commitment. "That's not my primary concern at the moment, as I have two more years left," Verstappen explained. "I need to first decide for myself if I want to extend beyond 2028. That’s why I’m in no hurry; otherwise, I would have signed a contract until 2040."
