Verstappen has already identified his preferred successor to Lambiase.
"I know who I want by my side"
Max Verstappen has stated that he already has someone in mind to take over from his long-time race engineer, Gianpiero Lambiase, when the Brit departs. Lambiase is expected to leave the pitwall to take on a senior leadership position at McLaren, with many speculating that he could become either co-team principal with Andrea Stella or potentially succeed Stella as team principal. For now, though, the well-known Verstappen-Lambiase collaboration remains unchanged. The four-time world champion acknowledges that the transition will be a gradual process. In an interview with Viaplay, Verstappen mentioned that he has a preferred candidate already within the team. "I know who I want alongside me, and he’s already in the team," he stated in Monaco. "His integration will be gradual, though. It’s still too early." Verstappen recognized that as Lambiase's exit approaches, their working relationship will inevitably begin to shift. "Logically, towards the end of the season, the information shared with Gianpiero will decrease," he noted. "He’s aware of this and understands it." Choosing a successor for Lambiase will be one of Red Bull's pivotal decisions in the coming years, given the close bond and significant success they have achieved together, securing four consecutive world championships and establishing one of the most notable engineer-driver partnerships in Formula 1 history. Former Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko confirmed that the team is already looking ahead. "The replacement will be an experienced individual who has previously held a similar role," the Austrian was quoted as saying.
