Norris: The car looks better than in previous stages.
Lando Norris missed the first practice in Barcelona, giving his car to Leonardo Fornaroli, but showed the best time in the second. The McLaren driver said that the car looks better in Barcelona compared to the previous races in Canada and Monaco. Oscar Piastri completed both practices and was satisfied with the progress made during the day. Lando Norris (1st): "I think Friday went quite well, especially since I felt comfortable behind the wheel. This track is not as simple as it may seem, although I probably know it better than any other. The track is very fast and is quite different from those we raced on in Monaco and Montreal. The car requires completely different characteristics here, so we have to adapt to different conditions compared to the last races. I feel that the car is working better now than in the last few weeks. That's a good sign. Of course, there is still a lot of work ahead. I can't say that everything is perfect and that I'm completely satisfied, but in such heat and strong winds, few will be fully satisfied with the day. The conditions are challenging, however, the car really looks better than in the previous races. I think we are close to the competitors we should be with. It's hard to draw final conclusions now, as we don't know how much fuel and what engine modes other teams were working with. But the main thing is that we see progress compared to the last races. It's clear that the car has started to work better. Of course, it is still not at the level we want to see. There are things that I am not satisfied with and that need improvement. But considering how the last month has gone for us, there is not much to complain about. This evening we will continue to work and try to understand how to maximize the car's potential." Oscar Piastri (3rd): "A pretty good Friday for our team. We are happy with the progress made, and the pace was much better than last week, which can be seen as a positive step. It seems we are fighting for the lead, and that's great. Right now, the most important thing is to maintain the pace we have built on Saturday. Although the first signs are encouraging, we still have a lot to do. We will continue to work hard to find a way to get even more from the car in qualifying." Leonardo Fornaroli (5th in the first session): "I am experiencing incredible emotions from having completed my first practice in Formula 1. I felt comfortable behind the wheel and focused entirely on the tasks at hand – to conduct a clean session and aerodynamic tests. The lap time today was not the goal, although I finished the session in fifth place. My priority was to gather information for the team, and I am satisfied with the work done together. I will continue to help the team as a reserve driver, working on the simulator throughout the season, preparing for the next TPC tests, and waiting for new opportunities to participate in the first practice later this year."
