Former Top Gear and The Grand Tour presenter Jeremy Clarkson has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. The 66-year-old auto journalist announced his diagnosis during the finale of his current show, Clarkson’s Farm, as reported by Reuters.
Clarkson alluded to this revelation in an Instagram video he shared before the episode aired, stating he had “somber news” for fans of the typically “bucolic, charming, and cheerful” documentary series.
“But the final two episodes, which will be released in the middle of the night tonight, are … they’re really none of those things,” he continued. “They’re tough to watch.”
“They’re genuinely, really tough.”
Clarkson informed others on the show that the illness was detected last May during a routine checkup and was identified “very early.”
“If I hadn’t gotten myself checked out and they hadn’t found the issue early, this could very well have been my last harvest,” he remarked. “It’s only because they caught it early that I have every hope of continuing to harvest this farm for many, many years ahead.”
He mentioned that he underwent a procedure that removed 10% of his prostate.
Clarkson, along with fellow former Top Gear presenters Richard Hammond and James May, will step down from hosting The Grand Tour in 2024; since leaving the Amazon series, the trio has primarily focused on non-automotive topics.
