For wagon enthusiasts, let's take a moment to mourn another lost Porsche wagon.
On Thursday, the 2027 Porsche Taycan was unveiled, featuring faux gear shifts from a simulated transmission among other updates. A significant omission? The Taycan wagons, both the Sport Turismo and Cross Turismo, have been discontinued. A spokesperson from Porsche confirmed to The Drive that this is not a figment of our imagination—the wagons are truly gone.
Let’s observe a moment of silence, shall we? Furthermore, we can only hold the public accountable, not Porsche. If more people had purchased these vehicles, they would likely still be in production today. This isn't the first instance of this phenomenon; the Panamera Sport Turismo was also phased out in 2023 due to poor sales. Interestingly, the BMW M5 wagon and Audi RS6 Avant have vastly outperformed their respective manufacturers' sales expectations in the U.S. What’s going on here?
The Drive reached out to Porsche for clarity on why the wagon variants, which are the standout models of the Taycan, have been discontinued. We will update this article as soon as we receive a response.
The Taycan Cross Turismo was officially announced in 2021. At that time, Porsche highlighted its Gravel Roads driving mode. Last year, Executive Editor Andrew Collins reviewed the Cross Turismo and suggested it might be the best all-around electric vehicle available. He is seldom mistaken, although his dog, Bramble, was not a fan of Porsche's electric wagon—clearly, Bramble has questionable taste.
Editor-In-Chief Kyle Cheromcha, who is nearly always right, reviewed the Taycan GTS Sport Turismo following its 2022 launch and deemed it the finest electric Porsche at that time. Cheromcha remarked, “Critics who dismiss EVs for lacking soul need to experience the driving of a Taycan GTS.” Clearly, those detractors did not take a spin in the Taycan GTS wagon.
