Eventually, it appears that every car manufacturer inadvertently releases a crucial detail about an upcoming vehicle by prematurely posting information on their website. It looks like Slate has decided to get ahead of the game (before even producing a single vehicle), and quite dramatically, by revealing the starting price of their entry-level electric pickup: $24,950.

This was noticed by a reader of The Autopian, and it appears it wasn’t very well hidden. Someone seems to have neglected to verify the metadata on Slate’s preorder page, as it was published with this text:

The Slate Truck comes with all the essentials for the CONFIDENTIAL price of $24,950 (note: we’re all still under NDA and cannot share this).

While this isn’t officially confirmed, given that we are only a week away from Slate’s scheduled pricing announcement on June 24th, it holds a fair amount of credibility. This figure is also significantly higher than what Slate initially promised, as their original sub-$20,000 price considered electric vehicle incentives that are no longer available.

Unfortunately for Slate, this isn’t the only hurdle facing its new budget-friendly pickup truck. Ford is offering something more comprehensive for just a bit more money, and additionally, Slate will face competition from the increasing number of off-lease used EVs that will soon flood the market.

We have contacted Slate for a comment regarding this apparent accidental leak. We will update this article if we receive a response.
