India moves forward with new initiatives for a Formula 1 comeback.

"Efforts are being made to reintroduce Formula 1 to India by 2030."

Significant progress has been made in the efforts to bring Formula 1 back to India. Sports minister Mansukh Mandaviya announced that a specific task force will be created to evaluate the challenges and advantages of hosting major motorsport events in the country. This initiative follows a recent meeting that included Formula 1 officials, representatives from the Buddh International Circuit, the Adani Group, the Federation of Motor Sports Clubs of India (FMSCI), and other relevant stakeholders.

"The ministry will set up a dedicated task force of four to five members to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the motorsports ecosystem in the country," Mandaviya stated. The task force will have three months to provide its recommendations, focusing on the economic, tourism, and investment impacts of hosting international events.

Mandaviya mentioned that the government now aims to bring Formula 1 back to India by 2028, slightly adjusting his previous goal of hosting a race by 2027. Formula 1 last took place at the Buddh International Circuit near New Delhi from 2011 to 2013.

In the meantime, FMSCI president Arindam Ghosh noted that discussions are still ongoing, although he proposed a somewhat extended timeline. "Efforts are being made to reintroduce Formula 1 in India by 2030," he commented. The federation is also advocating for the return of MotoGP and a round of the World Rally Championship by 2028.
