Mattia Binotto proposes to change the ADUO system.

Mattia Binotto proposed to adjust the ADUO program to better align it with the technical regulations of 2026. Currently, ADUO only measures the performance of internal combustion engines (ICE), and those power unit manufacturers whose products lag behind the leader in such a ranking are granted the right to refine it. The project leader of Audi in Formula 1 believes that the approach used since 2021 to assess chassis performance could also be applied to evaluate the efficiency of power units. "To measure the difference in power, appropriate sensors are installed on the cars. But is it the right approach when the ADUO program is based solely on measuring the difference in kilowatts? - Binotto pondered while speaking to the press during the race weekend in Barcelona. - One can argue. But a kind of ADUO exists for chassis as well, just called differently, and the essence is that if you are lagging behind, you get the right to spend more time in the wind tunnel and conduct other research - this method allows teams to level their capabilities in one way or another. Now, when we discuss the regulations for power units, how should we assess their efficiency? It was decided to measure only kilowatts, but is that correct? That is also a contentious issue. Perhaps we should develop something similar to what is used in the case of chassis? There, the results of the previous season are taken as a basis, because if the goal is to achieve a leveling of team capabilities, then this is probably the fairest approach. Then we would have a unique system that would link the efficiency of chassis and power units. In this case, the best teams would not gain an advantage, while those whose cars are slower, or those power unit manufacturers whose engines are the least efficient, would be given more opportunities. And given how the regulations are currently formulated, we have to fully trust the FIA. I have no doubt that the federation will provide the correct assessments. But how to act in the future? Is there a need to create another system for compiling such rankings? Probably, there is."
