Aston Martin is preparing the second version of the AMR26 for Hungary.
Fernando Alonso has recently stated several times that all his hopes are pinned on the second half of the year, when Aston Martin will complete the radical modernization of the AMR26 car and present its second version – the "specification B."
There is no official information about this project, but as Motorsport Italia reports, the team plans to prepare this car for the Hungarian stage of the championship. It will differ from the original version not just by a number of updated aerodynamic elements – according to information from sources close to Aston Martin, only the front suspension will remain from the current car.
Everything else will be completely redesigned under the guidance of Adrian Newey and his personal oversight. He and his team of engineers decided not to try to fix individual shortcomings of the AMR26, but to undertake a complete overhaul of the flawed chassis design.
At the same time, Japanese engineers from Honda Racing Corporation (HRC) are upgrading their power unit, in which the internal combustion engine currently lags behind the engines of other manufacturers, with the difference reaching almost 10%.
However, yesterday we quoted Koji Watanabe, the president of HRC, who made it clear that miracles should not be expected. Nevertheless, intensive work is ongoing both in Sakura and Silverstone, and the team and engineers are paying special attention to the organic integration of the power unit and chassis – many of the current car's shortcomings are related to problems in this area.
There is just over a month left until the Hungarian Grand Prix, and the debut of the AMR26 B is not far away.
