Red Bull will bring the biggest update of the season to Austria.
At Red Bull Racing, there are serious expectations for the home Grand Prix in Austria. The team will bring the largest update of the car since the beginning of the season to Spielberg. In May, the team already brought many innovations to the Miami Grand Prix, but now sources from the Dutch publication De Telegraaf confirm that the updates for the Austrian stage of the championship are even more significant. After the race in Barcelona, where Max Verstappen finished fourth, Red Bull Racing's team principal Laurent Mekies stated that future updates should help the team close the gap to the top three, but emphasized that several steps still need to be taken to truly compete with Mercedes. Since the beginning of the season, a characteristic feature of the RB22 has been excess weight. At the start of the year, the car was about 12 kilograms heavier than the minimum allowable weight. With the updates that Red Bull Racing will bring to Austria, the target weight figures will effectively be achieved, and the "diet" program for the RB22 will come to an end. It is worth noting that the minimum weight for Formula 1 cars in 2026 is 768 kilograms, including the driver. The technical innovations that Red Bull Racing is preparing for the Austrian Grand Prix are important not only in terms of competing for results but also in the context of Max Verstappen's future. The four-time world champion has refused to confirm to the team that he will complete the entire term of his current contract, which runs until the end of 2028, and will not exercise the option for early termination. The management at Red Bull hopes that the updates for the Austrian Grand Prix will transform the car enough that Max will abandon the idea of changing teams, at least in 2027.
