In Canada, the diffuser featured serrated attachments at the top, covering more than half of its width. Their purpose was to effectively lengthen the diffuser and enhance its efficiency. We reported that in Barcelona, Ferrari took note of this solution and approached the FIA with questions about its legality and the possibility of replicating it. The FIA responded with a refusal and issued a special directive prohibiting the use of such solutions. Mercedes requested the FIA to postpone the directive's implementation until Silverstone to make changes to the car designs at the factory, but it came into effect already in Austria.
