Perez downplays worries about the heat at the Austrian GP.
"I'm Mexican, so this temperature doesn't feel too hot for me."
Sergio Perez has dismissed Formula 1’s worries regarding the hot conditions at the Austrian GP. With temperatures expected to hit the mid-30s at the Red Bull Ring for the rest of the weekend, the FIA has labeled it a heat hazard, which means all cars must be equipped with the new cooling vest system, regardless of whether drivers opt to wear it. "I don’t want to use it; as a Mexican, this heat doesn’t bother me," Perez chuckled. "It's amusing to see Europeans concerned about this level of warmth; to me, it's quite normal." Championship leader Kimi Antonelli shared a similar attitude. "I’m Italian; I’m accustomed to this weather," he laughed. Mercedes has introduced an updated battery package in Austria following the issue that led to Antonelli's retirement in Barcelona, but the 19-year-old affirmed that the anticipated heat does not pose a problem. "No, although it will definitely be a tough race for the cars," he remarked. "In Spain, there was a temperature rise in a battery pack component that caused the system to fail. But these issues are not related to heat."
