Russell: I slowed down before that turn.

Russell: I slowed down before that turn.

George Russell set the best time in the final seconds of qualifying at the Red Bull Ring, however, at that time yellow flags were already displayed on the track due to Max Verstappen's crash. Nevertheless, he is confident that his result will hold.

George Russell (1st): "I am incredibly happy, it was a great lap! I saw the yellow flags and significantly slowed down before that corner. Before that, I was five tenths faster, and when I came out of the last corner, the result was only two and a half tenths better.

Overall, there was a single yellow flag, not double yellow flags, so everything should be fine. It was a tough day, but I managed to put in a special lap, so I'm in a great mood right now, and I'm really proud of how we handled it.

Tomorrow is going to be very hot! It seems that Ferrari is incredibly fast, and their cars handle the corners better than anyone else. They probably give us a bit of a disadvantage on the straights, which will help us defend. By the way, I just spoke with Toto Wolff, and he said everything is fine, we didn't break the yellow flag rule, and that's good news.

I slowed down 100 meters before the corner – I'm glad to hear that! And tomorrow we have a real battle ahead. Of course, Kimi starts from 4th position and will also be very fast. We also know how strong Lando Norris and the McLaren team are. So everyone is in for an interesting race!"

Kimi Antonelli (4th): "I don't know why, but I thought there were double yellow flags on the track, so I aborted my attempt and missed the chance to get into the front row. I shouldn't have done that, it was my mistake.

Overall, I didn't finish the lap, although the result would have been almost the same as George's. We were separated by just one tenth – he would have been a bit ahead of me, but I still could have shown the second-best time. It's a shame it didn't work out.

In tomorrow's race, we'll try to do everything we can, although, of course, it will be tough for us, especially when it comes to tire management. The degradation will be very intense, but we have something to fight for, so we will put in all our efforts."
