Oscar Piastri: I hope we will be in the front row.
Before the British Grand Prix, Oscar Piastri stated that he has always enjoyed racing at Silverstone, although he understands that the British crowd is more warmly welcoming to Lando Norris, his McLaren teammate. Last year, Oscar led for most of the race but was penalized for a rules violation during a safety car period and ultimately finished second. The victory went to Lando, so the Australian feels he has some unfinished business at Silverstone, although he acknowledged that this year he is unlikely to contend for the win.
Oscar Piastri: "I'm not sure I'll be able to do it, considering the capabilities of our car, but I'll do everything I can. In any case, the British weekend is always fun, the Silverstone track is one of my favorites on the championship calendar, and the fans welcome us incredibly well and support our team greatly.
I must admit that the cheers from the British crowd are more directed at Lando than at me, but it would be strange if it were otherwise. In any case, it's very joyful to see so many people in the stands in McLaren's signature colors.
It's hard to say what results to expect this weekend. I believe everyone has had ups and downs throughout the season, except for Mercedes. They consistently contend for the top results, and what happened to us in Austria is difficult to interpret definitively.
We thought we could perform a bit better in qualifying and a bit worse in the race. We also believed that Ferrari would be much stronger on Sunday than they actually were. Meanwhile, Red Bull and Max Verstappen were much faster than we expected. So the situation is constantly changing, it varies from track to track, especially if someone introduces new technical innovations.
Overall, it's not easy to make predictions, but I think we will still be in the front rows, although I don't know exactly where. However, we still lack that final step to enter the battle for wins. Although, if we manage to do everything as well as possible, there will be a chance to get on the podium. But we still have to find that out.
I hope that as our team continues to upgrade the car and introduces the innovations currently in development, we can catch up to Mercedes. However, everyone is implementing new features quite quickly now, so the balance of power will still change to some extent. Of course, we want to be the team that challenges Mercedes more often and even surpasses them – I hope for that.
However, we must be realistic and understand that Red Bull and Ferrari are also capable of that. The other teams dream of reaching that level at some point in the future. Let's hope that McLaren can do it before the others."
