Verstappen responds as pressure mounts on Red Bull.
"They aimed to undermine the management"
Jos Verstappen has criticized Martin Brundle as pressure rises on Red Bull amidst ongoing rumors about Max Verstappen’s future. Veteran commentator Brundle implied at Silverstone that Verstappen’s management was instrumental in dismantling the team’s previous leadership structure. "They aimed to undermine the management of Red Bull," the ex-F1 driver stated. "They executed that very effectively." These remarks follow the exits of Christian Horner, Adrian Newey, Jonathan Wheatley, and Dr. Helmut Marko from the team, with paddock speculation also hinting that long-time engineering chief Paul Monaghan could be leaving after his noticeable absence from Silverstone.
Jos Verstappen reacted to an Instagram post featuring Brundle’s comments, writing, "Another fool who thinks he understands the situation." This exchange occurs during another challenging weekend for Red Bull, with Verstappen labeling his RB22 as "too slow" after qualifying and suggesting that significant modifications and a pitlane start might be necessary before Sunday’s British GP. "Ideally, I’d swap everything out or completely revamp everything," the four-time world champion said. "I’m not superstitious, but it feels as if I encountered bad luck. Today was just embarrassing and disappointing. If we go into the race like this, it’s pointless."
Speculation persists regarding Verstappen's rumored move to McLaren, with suggestions that this could lead to Oscar Piastri moving to Red Bull. Former F1 driver Christijan Albers believes conversations are occurring on both fronts. "Those two teams are showing interest," he told Viaplay. "While Zak Brown is watching Max, Red Bull is also eyeing Piastri." Albers further mentioned that Piastri’s manager, Mark Webber, is no longer a frequent presence in McLaren's hospitality unit. "The reality is that he is not very welcome in the team and motorhome anymore," he stated.
However, Verstappen chose not to escalate speculation regarding his own future. "Of course, it wouldn’t make sense to say anything after just one poor qualifying session," he noted. "But I do hope for better weekends ahead, similar to last week." When asked if he still believed he could capture the 2026 title, Verstappen responded, "You should stop asking me about that." "I’m looking forward to the summer break, but it’s not long enough for me," he added with a smile.
