Alonso fears that in Spa F1 will be slower than F2.

Fernando Alonso fears that on certain sections of the track in Spa, Formula 1 cars may be slower than Formula 2 cars. According to the two-time world champion, the reason will be the characteristics of the new generation power unit. In 2026, one of the key factors will be the strategy for consuming and accumulating electrical energy. This is particularly significant on tracks where maximum power is important. Fernando Alonso believes that during the stage in Belgium, drivers will find themselves in a situation where the reserve of electrical energy will be depleted before the end of the lap. As a result, this will lead to situations where the power unit may operate without electrical power for more than a minute, causing Formula 1 cars to be less powerful than Formula 2 cars in some sections of the Spa circuit. Fernando Alonso: "The tracks in Silverstone and Spa are very demanding in terms of energy consumption, so it's impossible to use electrical power on all the straights. If in Spa we use the entire energy reserve on the section from the first to the fifth corner, then there will be nothing left for the rest of the lap. As a result, we have to conserve energy to then use it on the stretch from the 14th corner to the Bus Stop chicane. But if we apply it specifically on these two straights, which is the optimal option, then the entire second sector, which takes about a minute, will have to be driven without any electrical energy at all. When the electrical energy runs out, we are left only with the internal combustion engine. This year, in such a mode, the car has less power than it did last season, and even less than Formula 2 cars. So we are facing a serious challenge."
