Formula E: Günther leaves DS Penske, Nato leaves Nissan
At the end of the 13th season of Formula E, there have been changes in the lineups of the teams in the electric series.
Norman Nato's collaboration with Nissan has come to an end, which was quite expected, as the French driver was unable to earn points as effectively as his teammate Oliver Rowland. While last year's world champion finished the season with 117 points, Nato only managed to score 20, almost six times less.
It is expected that in season 14, his place will be taken by Victor Marten, who is well-known to fans from both the junior series and endurance racing, where he competes for the factory team Alpine, as well as from his collaboration with Williams in Formula 1, where he serves as a test driver.
Max Günther is also leaving DS Penske, but unlike Nato, he is not parting ways with Formula E – rumors suggest that the German driver will move to Envision Racing. This team will undergo a complete lineup change – we have reported on the departure of Sébastien Buemi, but it is also ending its collaboration with Swedish driver Joel Eriksson.
“The London weekend races were my last with DS Penske,” Günther announced via social media. “Two seasons are behind me, filled with many memorable moments related to race victories, pole positions, and together we have overcome numerous challenges.
I am very grateful to everyone in this team for their determination and contribution to our common goal, but most of all for the wonderful relationships we have built during this time. This has been a remarkable chapter in my career, but now the GEN4 era begins, and what lies ahead truly inspires me.”
However, Günther's departure from the team is not only related to his results, but rather to the fact that DS Penske itself is ceasing to exist – at least in the form it has participated in Formula E for the past few years.
The thing is that the Stellantis group is changing its policy, and from the next season, it will be represented in the World Championship for electric car racing by Citroen and the new Opel team. The farewell of the premium brand DS Automobiles to Formula E was beautiful – the talented and fast Brit Taylor Barnard became the youngest race winner in the history of the series yesterday. And something tells me that he won't be without a contract.
The license to compete in Formula E still belongs to the American team Penske, and they have not yet announced their future plans.
