I don’t want to be a team principal anymore. First of all, I’ve already done that, and secondly – nowadays, team principals are increasingly becoming engineers. With all due respect, some of these engineers – not all – in my opinion, lack the skills necessary for a successful team leader.
At Aston Martin, I was the CEO and team principal. Martin Whitmarsh came in as the CEO of the group and within a few weeks took on most of my responsibilities – about 80% – and told me, ‘You can handle these 20% on the track.’ And then I thought to myself, ‘There can’t be two dads.’”
