Mad Max: Fury Road is an exceptional car movie, not only because it's essentially one lengthy chase, but also due to the production team's creation of a fleet of post-apocalyptic vehicles that are fully operational while appearing bizarre. Several of the iconic cars were auctioned off a few years back, but if you missed that chance (or were just not financially ready), there’s another opportunity to own a Fury Road vehicle—as long as you're okay with a substitute.
One of the leftover cars crafted for the film is currently being auctioned on eBay. It’s a unique hybrid combining the rusted shell of a 1948 Hillman Minx with the chassis of a Mitsubishi L300 van. Even if it weren't a movie vehicle, it would be a distinct addition to your local car meet. It's rare to find a Minx—or any Hillman, for that matter—in the U.S., and Mitsubishi hasn't sold any commercial vehicles here for decades.

However, people are not likely to recognize it from the film. The listing states it was seen being transported on a car carrier, which can be momentarily spotted toward the back of Immortan Joe’s convoy. Yet, the carrier is so marginal that pinpointing the Minx on it is challenging. The listing also notes that the car was filmed in scenes that were ultimately cut. When it was offered for sale in 2024 by Propstore Auction, the listing described it as one of the buggies utilized by the Buzzards attacking Imperator Furiosa’s War Rig early in the movie. The Buzzards’ vehicles were all adorned with metal spikes, suggesting the Hillman may have initially been created for that sequence but was ultimately unused, leaving filmmakers to repurpose it.
Nonetheless, this build is quite impressive in its own right. Like the other Fury Road vehicles, the body is authentic (it’s hard to envision someone going through the effort of crafting a fake 1948 Hillman Minx body), and the Mitsubishi chassis is robust. The elevated rear, oversized tires, and exhaust emerging from the rear wheel well provide it with a whimsical look that’s part off-roader, part weathered custom, and part 1970s Street Freak.

The listing does not indicate what engine is under the hood, but it’s likely the same small-displacement gasoline or diesel engine from the original L300 chassis. It’s paired with a five-speed manual transmission that you shift with your left hand, as this car is right-hand drive. The interior is fully equipped for stunt usage, featuring an easily reachable hand brake, roll cage, and battery kill switch. The listing asserts that everything functions, with the caveat that this car is "not intended for driving."
That’s disappointing because this movie extra seems like it could be a lot of fun to drive around in. It would also be quite entertaining to see someone else attempt to explain it to the DMV.
