Elbon: I still believe in the team

Having extended his contract with Williams for the next season, Alex Albon spoke with journalists from the team's press service…

Alex Albon: “One difficult year does not give a complete picture of the situation and the history of my relationship with Williams. Year after year, I see progress. Yes, this season has been challenging so far, but I still believe in the team, in its ambitions, in what it can achieve.

Despite the tough year, the team's response at the base and the work done to understand our problems has been tremendous. It’s as if we needed this difficult moment to accelerate the implementation of ambitious plans to address key issues with the car that have plagued us for many years. I have not seen the team tackle the task as decisively as this year, so I truly believe we will find a solution.

I have a great relationship with the team. I enjoy working with these people – with the team at the base, with the team on the track, with the board of directors and James Vowles. Over five years, we have built strong relationships.

We have brought in several wonderful specialists, focusing on the areas where we have had difficulties. It’s great to see how honestly we acknowledge this. Investments and strategies aimed at strengthening our human resources and attracting the best of the best will help us reach the top faster.

I have special emotions when I recall my first race with Williams, with a team that has supported me immensely from day one. Another turning point was the weekend in Canada in 2023 when the team introduced innovations that changed the course of our season. The fourth place in qualifying in Zandvoort that same year was another testament to our progress.

I remember the first race weekend in Melbourne last year when we managed to present a very fast car. And if in 2022 our car was the slowest, by 2025 we were able to outpace Ferrari in qualifying.

It’s a good reason to think about how important it is not to react too strongly to what’s happening this year, to remember that these are the same people and the same team that competed with the very best last year.

Thank you to our fans for continuing to support us in this challenging season. I still see a huge number of blue caps and flags. I am grateful to each of them. It is in moments like these that it is important to stick together to come out of the situation even stronger. I am doing everything I can to help the team so that we can get back into the fight as soon as possible. I promise you will see the same level of dedication from me, if not more.

It’s interesting to observe how new employees are integrating into the team. We need fresh minds and ideas – a new approach to thinking, a new approach to organization. I look forward to when these people become firmly established in the team and real shifts begin. To achieve success, it takes not the efforts of one person, but the collective efforts of everyone.”
