Domenicali brushes off F1 purists as expansion continues.

      Stefano Domenicali has once again defended modern Formula 1, indicating that many newer fans are not concerned with the technical aspects that traditional supporters critique. In an interview with De Telegraaf at Zandvoort, the F1 CEO dismissed the notion that the discontent regarding the 2026 regulations, especially around energy management, truly reflects the broader audience's views. "On social media, negative stories often dominate," he remarked. "We perceive a very different perspective."

      Domenicali highlighted the rescheduled Bahrain Grand Prix at Sepang as proof that F1 is still commercially strong. "The stands are already sold out within weeks, and 1,500 tickets for the Paddock Club have been sold. That’s unprecedented," the Italian noted. "This demonstrates the current strength of Formula 1."

      He then made a significant distinction between traditional motorsport enthusiasts and the wider modern audience. "There are dedicated motorsport fans discussing ’clipping’ during a Formula 1 weekend, but many others might believe it refers to something for their hair." This aligns with Domenicali's growing commercial perspective on criticism — stating that as the sport expands, the dissatisfaction of long-time technical purists doesn’t necessarily reflect the audience F1 is now aiming to attract. "We don’t achieve much progress through negativity," he asserted. "The data indicates that our business is prospering. While I take critical opinions seriously, my responsibility is to consider the bigger picture."

      Domenicali also believes some of this divide is generational. "I imagine Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton view the current regulations differently than teenagers like Kimi Antonelli and Arvid Lindblad." "That’s why it’s beneficial to consider everyone’s input." He likened current resistance to past changes that were ultimately accepted. "There have been numerous instances where drivers questioned: what is this?" "Consider previous shifting methods or the introduction of the Halo on the car. Now, that’s all we know."
