The 2016 world champion Nico Rosberg believes that Max Verstappen was lucky in the crash on the first lap of the Dutch Grand Prix when no one crashed into his damaged car from behind.
Nico Rosberg: "In Zandvoort, everyone is cheering for Max, and after such a crash, it was especially disappointing for him to finish the race so early. But it was all about the conditions, in which it is incredibly difficult to feel the limit of grip on the track, especially on slicks. That's why even one of the best drivers of his time ended up in a serious crash.
As Max himself said, he was indeed lucky. If the car had spun and remained in the middle of the track while the entire peloton was approaching at full speed, it could have ended in a massive crash; someone could have simply crashed into him.
The consequences could have been very serious, so in this episode, he was indeed a bit lucky."
