Official: Norris has renewed his contract with McLaren, extending it until the conclusion of 2030.
“I’m thrilled to be signing a new contract”
Lando Norris, the 2025 Formula 1 Drivers’ World Champion, has renewed his contract with the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team until at least 2030, with an option for further multi-year commitment beyond that date.
At 26 years of age and hailing from Somerset, United Kingdom, Lando is a homegrown talent who joined McLaren nine years ago through the team’s junior program in 2017, initially taking on the role of Test and Simulator Driver. He moved up to a race seat in 2019 and has since participated in 163 Grands Prix for the team, which is more than any other McLaren driver in history. Throughout his time, he has achieved 18 pole positions, 48 podiums, 13 wins, two Constructors’ Championships, and the Drivers’ World Championship.
This contract extension, which Lando announced to the team today during the annual family and friends open day at the McLaren Technology Centre, brings additional stability to the team. This follows Oscar Piastri’s contract extension from March of last year, while both CEO Zak Brown and Team Principal Andrea Stella have also signed long-term contracts in the past two years.
Along with confirming his future with McLaren for at least the next four years, Lando will receive an MCL39, the car he raced in his 2025 World Championship-winning season. This gift will serve as a lasting reminder of his contributions to the team, particularly his role in earning the team’s second consecutive Constructors’ title in 2025, as well as being the first McLaren driver to win the Formula 1 Drivers’ World Championship since 2008.
Lando Norris, Driver for the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, stated: “McLaren is my home, and I’m excited to sign a new contract that secures my position with the team until at least 2030. When I began this journey nine years ago, I set clear goals: to bring McLaren back to the front and to win Championships. We’ve accomplished that, but we aspire for more; we wish to keep winning, and as a team, we believe we can achieve it. I’m eager to get back in the car at Monza, and I’m enthusiastic about our future, both for the remainder of this season and in the years to come.”
Andrea Stella, Team Principal of the McLaren Mastercard Formula 1 Team, commented: “Lando has been a crucial part of McLaren’s success over the past nine years, and we are thrilled to maintain our partnership with him until at least 2030. He is an exceptional driver who combines remarkable natural speed with maturity, consistency, and a robust commitment to McLaren. Above all, he is a valued individual by everyone in the team. Since joining through our junior program, he has matured alongside us and has been central to our return to the front of Formula 1. This extension ensures vital continuity and strengthens our confidence in our shared direction. With both him and Oscar, we know we can rely on one of the strongest partnerships and one of the most united teams in Formula 1.”
Zak Brown, CEO of McLaren Racing, added: “I’m extremely pleased to be signing a new contract with Lando, extending his commitment to McLaren until at least 2030. His journey with the team exemplifies our dedication to discovering, developing, and fostering world-class talent, and his accomplishments are undeniable. Together with Andrea, Oscar, and the broader team, Lando has propelled McLaren into a new era of success, guiding us from the back of the grid to consecutive Constructors’ titles in 2024 and 2025, as well as achieving our first Drivers’ Championship in 17 years. We are very excited about what is ahead and remain fully dedicated to competing for wins and Championships.”
