Norris acknowledges 'other interest' prior to lengthy McLaren agreement.

      Lando Norris stated that deciding to commit his future to McLaren until at least 2030 was a straightforward choice, even in light of interest from other teams and the high salaries currently being rumored for Formula 1's top drivers. The reigning world champion's new deal is said to be valued at around $40 million annually, with a possibility to extend beyond 2030. However, Norris claims that the figures being reported are inflated.

      "It's definitely nowhere near the numbers I've been seeing online, unfortunately," he expressed. "Of course, with any job, there’s a bit more when you sign an extension. But it’s certainly not at the level of Lewis or Max. That’s expected, as I haven't achieved as much as they have in their careers."

      Nonetheless, Norris feels that his current abilities are comparable to the elite in Formula 1. "In some way, I think it should be, because I believe I can compete against them whenever necessary and perform better when needed," said the 26-year-old, who has won the last two consecutive grands prix. "So, I suppose I have mixed feelings about it."

      He acknowledged there had been "other interest" prior to signing, but he maintains that leaving McLaren was not appealing. "It was honestly the simplest decision I’ve had to make in my career so far," Norris remarked. "I will be very happy at the end of my career to say that McLaren is the only team I’ve raced for."

      Ralf Schumacher believes Norris’ recent performances justify why McLaren was eager to secure him for the long term. "Norris is the team leader now, there’s no doubt about it," he commented about Norris, whose teammate is Oscar Piastri. "He (Norris) made a lot of mistakes, but he no longer does."

      Schumacher now considers Norris "one of the best drivers in Formula 1 at the moment," contrasting him with teammate Piastri. "Norris is truly exceptional. Piastri is currently facing challenges," noted the German. "He’s going through a tough time right now."
