Mazepin claims victory upon returning to Europe as Ukraine contests the FIA.

The FIA has not yet issued a public response to the complaint.

Nikita Mazepin has made a notable return to European racing just days after the FIA lifted restrictions on Russian participants. The former Haas driver competed in a Mercedes-AMG GT3 for Team Motopark in the Spezial Tourenwagen Trophy at Spa-Francorchamps, a somewhat lower-tier German-based series.

Mazepin secured pole position for the first race by over four seconds and won by more than 16 seconds, finishing the weekend with another pole and victory on Sunday. His comeback follows the FIA's removal of the neutrality requirements introduced after Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine, allowing Russian racers to compete again under their national flag. However, this decision has sparked significant controversy.

The Automobile Federation of Ukraine has filed a formal complaint with the FIA Ethics Committee against the Russian Automobile Federation, claiming it maintains offices in Crimea, Sevastopol, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia—regions that are internationally recognized as part of Ukraine. The Ukrainian federation contends that this contravenes FIA regulations regarding the authority of national sporting bodies. The FIA has not yet provided a public response to this complaint.
