Ferrari is preparing new software for the engine.

The insufficiently effective hybrid system is the weak point of the Ferrari SF-26, negating the advantage in downforce. Ferrari understands where they fall short against their competitors and how to get more from the car, but the gap remains for now. The tracks in Budapest and Zandvoort seemed to suit the SF-26 on paper – a multitude of corners and a relatively small number of long straights should have played to Ferrari's strengths, but the Scuderia drivers didn't even make it to the podium. Tracks that allow for more efficient energy use often pose challenges for Ferrari's power unit, especially at the end of long straights, which was evident in Zandvoort, where Mercedes engines showcased their strengths. A decisive factor in the qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix was Ferrari's difficulties in achieving the FIA's allowed recovery level of 7.5 MJ. On the finish straight, the SF-26 simply ran out of energy, while competitors continued to accelerate. Recently, Ferrari has been focusing on optimizing power units, working not only on maximum power but also on energy management. Engineers are preparing new software, aiming to increase power by 3-4 kW, which is equivalent to about 5 hp. This is not additional power to the nominal output, but power that the system will be able to use more effectively in key sections of the track.
