Lexus RX is set to become much more exciting.

      The Lexus RX RR is an upcoming high-performance SUV designed to compete with rivals such as the BMW X5 M and Mercedes-AMG GLE 63. There are rumors that it will carry the “Morizo” designation, similar to the sporty Lexus LBX available in other markets. At this moment, one thing is certain about the upgraded RX: it is going to have a striking appearance.

      A partially camouflaged prototype was spotted in Europe, featuring aggressive fender flares and an intimidating set of exhaust outlets. The wheels and tires exhibit a bold low-offset design, and red Brembo brake calipers are clearly visible in this collection of spy photos. Closer examination of the images shows potential 21-inch wheels, staggered Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV tires (265s in the front and 295s in the rear), as well as cross-drilled and slotted rotors, along with front intakes that might accommodate intercoolers.

      Though no official performance details have been released yet, speculation suggests that this super-SUV version of the RX could be equipped with a hybrid powertrain generating 600 horsepower. While some competitors are utilizing larger engines, rumors indicate that Lexus will opt for a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine coupled with two electric motors.

      Physically, the Lexus RX finds itself in a middle ground. It is viewed as a competitor to the “mid-size” X5 and GLE but is somewhat smaller in size. This might provide a performance edge for the platform as it is enhanced for this special variant. The vehicle exudes a sporty appearance with its low stance and wide track. Historically, the RX has not been regarded as a “cool” car, but this new version seems poised to change that perception.

      “Morizo” is, naturally, the racing alias of Akio Toyoda. This name has been attributed to several of Toyota’s most exciting vehicles in recent years, including the super-sport version of the GR Corolla.

      I anticipate that we'll see this model available at dealerships in 2028, but the final design will likely be unveiled earlier.
