Piastri remains calm about his future in light of extended F1 contracts.

"I believe there are clauses on both sides"

Oscar Piastri asserts that the increasing tendency for longer contracts in Formula 1 does not alter his perspective on his future, even with the growing confidence surrounding several of his competitors. Max Verstappen is securely linked to Red Bull, and Piastri's teammate Lando Norris has also agreed to stay with McLaren until 2030. Piastri, whose contract extends for just a couple more years, mentioned that the increased stability is generally beneficial for drivers.

"I think a bit more stability around contracts is probably advantageous for us as drivers," stated the Australian. However, he emphasized that lengthy contracts do not eliminate speculation. "Max has had a contract throughout this time, yet there has been discussion about his contract almost every year for the last two or three years," Piastri noted.

He mentioned that most significant agreements are likely to have exit strategies. "I’m certain there are clauses in both directions at various times. I would be surprised if substantial contracts exist without any flexibility for either the team or the driver," he remarked.

For Piastri, the primary benefit of a longer contract is the indication of mutual commitment. "It essentially demonstrates a commitment to one another. It reflects a desire to collaborate and aim for success." He also added, "It’s nice to have a bit more certainty regarding how things will progress."
