Results of the morning session of the third day of tests

On the third day of testing, the conditions finally matched those that were worth traveling to Bahrain from cold Europe. But only on the third day, the first two were cold and even rainy, and on the last day the track temperature was 10 degrees higher than the day before, so the teams had to make adjustments.

There was an unexpected replacement at Aston Martin this morning. The team planned that Lance Stroll would lead the first session, but at night the Canadian felt unwell and in the morning Fernando Alonso got behind the wheel. Lance will take over after lunch.

The teams traditionally started the session with aerodynamic tests, driving laps at a fixed speed, then worked on a series of laps, simulating qualifying and a race with pit stops.

Oliver Berman aborted the attempt when a fragment of the engine casing was torn off his car, the newbie Haas F1 returned to the pits, handed the car over to the mechanics, and lost more than an hour.

Norris flew off the track in the fourth turn, but continued driving. Sauber had to replace the bottom, Mercedes dismantled the car to replace the power plant. Red Bull brought a new nose cone and, together with Verstappen, tested different configurations over short and long distances.

In the last hour, the session was stopped with red flags – glass broke in the transparent booth where the start and finish are given. The marshals were sweeping up the debris, the racers interrupted a series of laps and returned to the pits. On the first day of testing, the lights went out all over the track, on the second it was raining in the desert, on the third the glass at the checkpoint broke – what's wrong with Bahrain?

At the exit from the pit lane, the light turned green, then red again - an ATV was driving along the track. Antonelli and Alonso managed to leave, but Norris and Duane ran a red light, but then the session resumed.

The protocol was headed by Charles Leclair, who completed the best lap in 1:30.811. Isaac Hajjar drove the most – 73 laps.

At the end of the session, the FIA tested the activation of the virtual safety car mode and red flags.

After an hour break, the tests will continue. Most teams will change drivers.
