Hamilton: I don't know what the rain settings should be.
In his first qualifying behind the wheel of a Ferrari in Melbourne, Lewis Hamilton clocked eighth time, losing to team-mate Charles Leclerc by two tenths of a second. The seven-time world champion said that he had worked hard to get used to the unusual car, and admitted that it would be difficult for him if Sunday's race took place in the rain.
Lewis Hamilton (8th): "Overall, I'm happy. I had a really good session today. Everything is new to me this weekend - my first practice sessions with Ferrari, my first qualifying. I've really worked hard to adapt to a car that is very different from the ones I've driven in the past.
It was interesting, but I really don't know why we lost eight tenths to the leader today. We have a lot to analyze.
Charles has been with the team for seven years and knows the car inside and out. It's not so much about the new one, but about the general characteristics of the Ferrari cars, the approach to work and everything else. I'm still learning all this, and I'm happy that I was so close to my teammate in my first qualifying. But we need to keep working to understand why our pace was below the pace of the leaders.
It's going to be difficult tomorrow because I've never driven this car in the rain. I don't even know what the rain settings should be, so there's a lot to figure out tonight, and tomorrow I'll learn from my own experience again."
