Jack Duane admits mistake in Melbourne crash

Before the start of the Chinese Grand Prix, Alpine racer Jack Duane revealed what caused his accident on the first lap of the race in Melbourne, and took full responsibility for the incident.

Jack Duane: "To be honest, I was surprised by what happened myself, because it was different from all the mistakes I had made in the past. I had a lot of good moments last weekend, and although the results don't show it, I can feel it. This is much more important to me than making a mistake.

Next time on that stretch of track, I will act exactly as I did when I was driving from the pits to the starting grid, namely, I will shift gears before the third turn. I was in third gear, the gas pedal was pressed at 80%, I switched to fourth and the car stalled. Just to clarify the situation: everything was fine with the car, but my actions caused it to stall.

No excuses, but next time I'll be more careful and shift into higher gear before turning."
