McLaren will not change the wing due to the new rules.
Starting with the Chinese Grand Prix, new test requirements will come into force, with the help of which the FIA evaluates the bending stiffness of the upper bar of the rear wing.
According to Article 3.15.17 of the Technical Regulations, if a vertical load of 75 kg is applied to either end of the main plane of the rear wing, the distance between the main plane and the flap (known as the "gap") should not change by more than 2 mm. In Shanghai, the gap will be reduced to 0.5 mm, but as an exception, due to the fact that the teams received information about the innovations only on March 17, a tolerance of 0.25 mm from 0.5 mm will be allowed at the upcoming stage.
Championship leader Lando Norris assured that due to the innovations, the team would not have to change the design of the MCL39 rear wing.
"No, we don't need to change anything," Lando told the FIA press conference. – Everything is fine with our anti-wing. In fact, we are even doing too well, because we are too far from the maximum permissible values.
If this technical directive had been in effect last weekend, we would still be fine, so it's not directed against us. It's aimed at other teams, so I think we should push its implementation even harder."
