Ayo Komatsu: We understand the car better and better
In qualifying, Esteban Ocon showed 11th time - three hundredths was not enough for him to make it to the finals.…
Ayo Komatsu, team principal: "There were minor problems with the tyres and balance in the sprint, so we changed the settings before qualifying, and it was a step in the right direction – both drivers were satisfied. I know it will help in tomorrow's race as well.
Another positive moment was the proximity to reaching the finals – Esteban's last lap in the second session was not perfect, but if I remember correctly, he lost only tenth to Hamilton. I'm sure Oliver would have a good chance too if he could make his third attempt in the first part of qualifying.
There are a few things that we can improve, but it's good that we understand the car better. We managed to change a lot between the sprint and qualifying. Let's see what happens tomorrow."
Oliver Berman (17th): "The sprint turned out to be difficult, we still don't have enough speed. I got off to a good start and kept my position, then I had to keep an eye on the tires. I expected the front tires to lose efficiency so quickly.
In qualifying, we planned to make three attempts in the first session, but I didn't make it to the last one. We made some changes in the car, the first lap I got used to these changes, the second was better. These changes are more focused on the race, hopefully we will perform well tomorrow."
Esteban Ocon (11th): "We learned a lot from the sprint and used it to gather information. It wasn't easy for everyone with the tires, but everything went fine for us.
We changed a lot of things in the car before qualifying – the team did a great job, we made significant progress over the weekend, especially compared to Melbourne. We will try to earn points tomorrow."
