James Voules: We will try to do even better in Japan!
Immediately after the finish of the race, only Alex Albon had a reason for restrained joy in the Williams team, because only he finished in the top ten. But then events developed in such a way that I would like to paraphrase the ancient saying somewhat: if there were no happiness, then the misfortune of Ferrari would help.
Thanks to the disqualification of both cars of the Italian team, as well as Pierre Gasly's Alpine, in the official results of the Chinese Grand Prix, Elbon rose from 9th to 7th, and Carlos Sainz moved from 13th to 10th.
This immediately affected the mood of the team, and she shared on social media the picture that we used to preface this text. And James Vowles, the team leader, first commented on the results of the race even before the news of the disqualification of the three competitors, but then a second edition of his short message to the fans appeared, and we combined these two texts.
James Voules: "It's wonderful: We completed the first two races, earning a lot of points on both, because this weekend both Williams cars were in the top ten!
Perhaps even more important to me is that we were competitive in a variety of conditions and on three different tracks, including the Bahrain circuit, where the pre-season tests took place.
This was the case both in warm weather and in very cool weather, in conditions of rain and on drying asphalt, this was the case this weekend in Shanghai, where, in my opinion, the situation with the granulation of rubber created special difficulties.
I am proud of how well the team is working to prepare the car well, and today we have made a step forward compared to Saturday, but there is still a lot of work ahead.
Alex deserves credit, because he spent this weekend flawlessly. If we talk about Carlos, he is the last one in our team who managed to win races. There is no doubt that he is one of the best riders in the world and knows how to act in order to perform at the highest level. And we are responsible for providing him with a car that better suits his driving style.
In this regard, our interests coincide, we work together, so I am sure that Carlos will not be inferior to Alex in any way soon – you will see this later, I tell you for sure.
In the meantime, we have about 10 days before shipping to Japan, and during that time the team will have to work hard to improve the efficiency of the car. Therefore, we are now returning to the base, where both racers will have to work on the simulator. Both of them will be with us in the next two weeks to perform even better than they did today at the next stage in Japan."
