Marko: There are clauses in the contracts of all the best riders.
Max Verstappen's contract with Red Bull runs until 2028 inclusive, but in the last year there has been talk in the press that, with a certain development, the four-time world champion may leave the team, and these special conditions are also provided for by agreements between the parties.
According to Helmut Marko, in theory, negotiations with Verstappen on this topic are not excluded, but they may not begin until the summer break in the championship.
The Red Bull motorsport advisor confirmed that there is indeed an early termination clause in the contract with their leading driver, but on the one hand, there are similar clauses in the contracts of all top drivers, on the other hand, the team does not feel any particular anxiety at such an early stage of the season.
"The car needs to be upgraded so that Max can win his fifth world championship title," Marko said in an interview. Formel1.de – This is our main goal, and the whole team is working hard to achieve it. Of course, there are clauses in the contracts of all the best riders that allow termination in case of poor results.
But all such reservations are formulated in different ways. And at the moment, this topic is not being discussed at all."
When Marko was asked if this topic could become more relevant closer to the summer break, he replied: "Yes, the timing is just like that. But think about it, now we are in 2nd place in the individual competition, losing only 8 points to the leader. And the summer break is still a long way off."
And when asked if he would leave Red Bull if Verstappen still decides to part ways with the team, Marco reacted like this: "Yes, that could be a good reason."
