The FIA promises: the grass will not catch fire again
On Friday evening, after the second practice session had to be stopped twice with red flags due to the grass catching fire, the FIA issued a statement with a plan of action to avoid fires. It didn't work out – Saturday's training session had to be stopped twice for the same reason.
The FIA and Formula 1 are seriously concerned that due to the burning of last year's grass on the side of the track, qualifying and the race will have to be interrupted live. This development was deemed unacceptable, and before qualifying, the FIA was informed of the measures that would be taken.
"All available time and resources will be devoted to further moistening the grass before qualifying to avoid it catching fire," the FIA said in a short statement.
