Piastri has no desire to try his hand at Le Mans yet.

Oscar Piastri believes that McLaren still has a speed advantage, but it is not great enough to successfully overtake on a track like Suzuki. Therefore, the main task is to achieve better results in qualifying, because this will also allow you to start ahead of your team–mate.

Oscar also shared his attitude towards McLaren's new endurance racing project.

Oscar Piastri: "The conclusion we came to after Japan is that we need to do better in qualifying in order to start from a higher position. This is probably the main point that will allow you to perform more successfully.

When we analyzed the previous race, it was clearly seen that in Suzuka, in order to overtake, you need a pretty big advantage in terms of race pace. Therefore, the surest way to be in a more favorable position is to conduct qualifications at least a little better.

In our situation, we were very limited in terms of the actions we could take, so after the race we discussed various possible scenarios, considered whether we could have done something else, and in all cases came to the same conclusion. The bottom line is that you should have taken a lot more risk, although the probability of success is still not that high.

Nevertheless, we could have done something a little differently, the team is ready to admit that. At the same time, we also need to understand that at this very early stage of the season, we shouldn't lose points and give them to the opponents who are chasing us. This is also an important point.

In general, we have analyzed a lot, and the main conclusion is that we need to rise to higher positions based on the results of the qualification.

The fact that Max Verstappen and Red Bull were faster than us in Japan will not affect McLaren's approach. I think our car is faster now, but our advantage is not that great, and we cannot afford to relax and rely on chance.

Using the example of the Japanese weekend, we saw that even due to very small difficulties, you can immediately lose your leadership. It was good enough for Max to complete his lap in qualifying, and that was enough for him to beat us. I think this once again demonstrates that the fight promises to be just as intense throughout the year.

It's hard to say how things will turn out this weekend. In Bahrain, we will need to find the right approach to rubber and use its resources efficiently, so we'll see. It's very hot today, but it may be a little cooler on Sunday, but it will make it harder to warm up the tires. However, it is in this regard that we can achieve some advantage over our rivals."

In 2027, McLaren hypercars will make their debut in endurance racing, and this has become one of the main news of today. But when Oscar was asked if he was interested in the new McLaren factory project, he replied in the negative.

"One day I will have a desire to try my hand at Le Mans, but not now," Piastri said. – I'm happy with everything in Formula 1, and I don't think it would be right to combine performances in this championship with endurance racing. Firstly, in our case, the stakes are very high right now, and secondly, with this approach, it will not be possible to pay the attention that this race requires to Le Mans preparations.

You should not start such a marathon if you are not well prepared for it. I prefer to achieve everything I want in Formula 1 first, and only then will I consider whether to offer Zach Brown to give me the opportunity to compete somewhere else."
