Hulkenberg named the reason for the disqualification in Bahrain

Nico Hulkenberg finished thirteenth at the last stage in Bahrain, but a few hours after the finish he was disqualified for non–compliance with the technical regulations of the car - the thickness of the control strip under the bottom was less than the permissible values. On Thursday in Jeddah, the Sauber driver said that one of the reasons for the increased wear on the bar was the increased headwind on the main straight.

Nico Hulkenberg: "The main reason is that the wear on the bar was higher than usual – it's simple. We had no concerns about this over the weekend, but every time it comes down to finding the right balance.

In qualifying and in the race, the headwind on the main straight increased. This caused the car to press harder against the asphalt. That was one of the reasons."

Assessing Sauber's performance this season, Nico said: "To qualify for points, we have to do everything perfectly in every aspect – strategy, pit stops, any little things. We are not that far from the teams of the middle group. Perhaps we are only one step behind them. But the weather and the characteristics of a particular track also have a slight effect on the balance of power.

We're not that far from the others, but we have to keep attacking. It is necessary to continue to look for opportunities to add, since the rest are doing the same thing."
