Yesterday, the second meeting of the Formula 1 Commission took place in Geneva this year; it was held in the Swiss office of the FIA and online, chaired by Nicolas Tombasis, director of single-seater racing, and Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of FOM.
Following the meeting of the commission, the FIA press service informed about the main decisions taken at it.
The participants agreed on certain adjustments to the 2025 regulations, in particular:
Final amendments were made to implement the two mandatory pit stops rule during the Monaco Grand Prix.
Changes have been made to the rules of the closed park, relating to the situation when the rider decides not to use a cooling vest.
The provisions of the rules governing actions in a situation where there is a delay in the delivery of goods during field races, as was the case with several teams at the recent Chinese Grand Prix, have been supplemented.
On the eve of Cadillac F1's entry into the World Championship, an agreement has been reached on an amendment to the Financial Regulations allowing for additional costs for new teams.
The problem with grass ignition (which arose during the recent Japanese Grand Prix) was discussed and it was decided to explore the possibility of using an alternative material (steel) in the construction of control strips, as well as possible technologies for processing grass verges on some tracks.
The 2026 Regulations
The Federation informed the participants of the meeting about the progress in the work on the 2026 regulations.
The Formula 1 Commission discussed fundamental amendments to the rules governing the use of hybrid powerplant systems in 2026, as well as measures aimed at solving financial problems that powerplant suppliers may face if their products next year prove to be insufficiently effective or insufficiently reliable.
A more detailed discussion of these issues will take place with the participation of specialists already at the level of the relevant advisory committees.
The Federation also informed the members of the Formula 1 Commission about the results of a recent constructive meeting with representatives of the FIA, FOM and power plant manufacturers held in Bahrain.
