Brad Pitt is certainly the highlight of next month’s highly anticipated Formula 1 film titled F1, but it’s important to remember that racing cannot happen without cars. Mercedes-Benz has taken on a significant supporting role, both in front of and behind the camera, and has introduced a real car inspired by the fictional race team portrayed in the movie.

The 2026 Mercedes-AMG GT 63 “APXGP Edition” has a convoluted name but is designed to reflect the fictional 11th team in the F1 series. In the movie universe, it is not Cadillac, but rather Apex Grand Prix, or APXGP, that occupies this position. Pitt’s character, Sonny Hayes, serves as a thorn in the side of hotshot rookie Joshua Pearce, played by Damson Idris.

We will have to wait for the release of F1 to see if the mentor and mentee ever find common ground or achieve any wins. However, the special edition Benz offers us a glimpse into the meticulous detail involved in every aspect of the upcoming film. The presence of Mercedes vehicles was prominent; this included the official FIA F1 Safety and Medical cars, along with road models like the AMG SL, G-Class, and GT.

According to Mercedes-AMG, the APXGP Edition is “closely based on the movie.” Its unique paint finish features APXGP-specific designs that have been hand-applied, aligning with the film's car. The AMG Extended Night Package complements the dark exterior, adding black chrome accents to the grill, badging, AMG crest, and Mercedes star at the rear.

To add a splash of color, the APXGP Edition is equipped with 21-inch wheels in matte Race Gold, along with matching accents around the grille, side sills, rear apron, rear diffuser, and front fenders, all of which showcase a checkered flag motif.

The interior of the APXGP Edition continues the theme of Race Gold, carbon fiber, and black. It features black Nappa leather/microfiber upholstery accented with gold stitching. This gold thread is used throughout, including in the performance steering wheel, door panels, center console, and dashboard. Carbon fiber trim also includes gold threads, while the floor mats are embroidered with the APXGP logo in, naturally, Race Gold.

In terms of performance, the vehicle includes a fixed rear wing made of carbon fiber. With the AMG Carbon Fiber package, the front splitter, side sill trim, and rear diffuser also showcase carbon fiber elements. The braking system is provided by the AMG High Performance Carbon Ceramic Brake System, completed with black brake calipers.

The suspension and tuning feature standard components, including the AMG Active Ride Control suspension, and it houses a 577-horsepower AMG 4.0-liter biturbo V8 engine. Additionally, it comes with AMG Track Pace for track data collection, plus a lift system for extra ground clearance over obstacles.

Pricing has not been disclosed, but the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition is limited to just 52 units. This specific number, confirmed by a Mercedes-Benz USA spokesperson to be linked to the movie, remains otherwise unexplained. F1 is set to premiere globally on June 25 and in North America on June 27. While the film's success remains uncertain, there will be 52 striking GT 63s available to remind audiences either way.
