Sainz's father is 'seriously' considering the position of FIA president.
"This would be an extraordinary opportunity to give back."
Formula 1 driver Carlos Sainz's notable father has acknowledged that he might be a candidate for the next FIA presidency. The existing president of F1’s governing body, Mohammed Ben Sulayem, is set to face elections in December. Recently, Susie Wolff, the wife of Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, was mentioned as a possible contender, but concerns regarding potential conflicts of interest dismissed that possibility.
Despite Sainz's son, Carlos Jr., being not only a Williams driver but also a new co-director of the Grand Prix Drivers’ Association, this has reportedly not deterred rally legend Sainz senior, 63, from being approached for the position. When contacted by the Spanish newspaper El Confidencial, he revealed that he is "seriously" contemplating a run for office.
"The world of motorsport has defined my life and continues to be a significant part of it," Sainz senior stated. "It has provided me with everything, and I believe this would be an exceptional way to give back some of what I have received.
"I think this could be an appropriate time in my professional journey to take this step, which is why I am seriously considering it," he added.
