Martin Brandl received the order from the hands of the Prince of Wales
On the last day of last year, it became known that Martin Brundle was included in the royal award list for 2025 – a former racing driver and now a popular commentator was awarded the Order of the Officer of the British Empire (OBE).
Today, on May 13, Brandl was invited to Windsor Castle, the residence of the British monarchs, where he received this honorary award from the hands of the Prince of Wales, heir to the throne.
"Congratulations to our Martin Brandl! Today he received an OBE for his services to motorsport and sports television journalism!", the press service of the British Sky Sports channel reported on its social media pages.
Last year, Christian Horner, the head of the Red Bull Racing team, would also have been awarded the royal award, but in his case it was the Order of higher rank – CBE, i.e. "Commander of the British Empire".
There are already knighthoods above the CBE, and in the history of Formula 1 there have been seven people who have received the right to be called "sirs": These are Jack Brabham, Jackie Stewart, Stirling Moss and Lewis Hamilton, as well as Frank Williams, Patrick Head and Ron Dennis.
