Smedley: We will see the real power of Ferrari
Former racing engineer Rob Smedley spoke on the F1 Nation podcast about Lewis Hamilton's difficulties at Ferrari and the shape of the Italian team.…
Rob Smedley: "This car is not easy to drive. It definitely doesn't fit Lewis's driving style, so Charles is always faster by one lap.
In fast and medium-speed turns, you need confidence in the stability of the rear of the car. We've seen in the past that when Lewis lacks that, when the car is wagging its tail a bit, he can't get the most out of it. It's just a feature of his driving style.
The Ferrari car as a whole lacks efficiency. The gap is small, but it's fast, and you can't win it back with just one decision. They have a lot to do to get on the same level as the leaders, but so far everything is as it is.
In an attempt to solve this problem, we will see the real strength of Ferrari. Will they be able to pull through? Will they be able to achieve greater efficiency? We are talking about only two or three tenths, if they win them back, they will become much more competitive.
In addition, Ferrari needs to draw conclusions from what happened in Miami. During the race, they thought too long before giving the command to change positions. I myself have found myself in a situation many times when a rider asks for something that seems completely obvious to him, but it takes time to make a decision.
But they knew that their riders were using the opposite strategy. I'm sure everyone in the team will agree that in the future they need to be better prepared to make decisions so that when riders follow each other with different strategies, they don't create problems and ruin the chances that the chosen strategy will work."
