Andy Cowell: I hope we continue to make progress.
The Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix was another stage of the season in which the Aston Martin F1 drivers did not score points, although the car's speed allowed it, and Fernando Alonso did not accidentally show 5th time in qualifying.
But the circumstances during Sunday's race were such that he called himself the unluckiest driver in the world. Nevertheless, Andy Cowell, the team leader, commented on the weekend's results in a positive way.…
"For once, the car's speed was higher than can be judged by the final result," the Spanish newspaper Marca quotes Cowell. "Although this is a case where you can get upset, because we were less than a second away from the top ten, but due to the introduction of the virtual safety car (VSC) mode, none of them Racers could not earn points.
Still, the positive thing is that, thanks to the technical innovations, the car increased in speed, and the race was going quite well for us until the VSC factor intervened. I think everyone in the team is in a bad mood right now, but I think that tomorrow everyone will think something like this: "Go ahead, let's continue working, analyze all aspects and identify areas where further improvements can be achieved."
Last year, the problem was that we created novelties that could work on high-speed tracks, but made the car even less efficient on slow ones. But now we have implemented a number of improvements that have performed well at low, medium and high speeds, and this is already a step forward.
But I won't say how much faster the car has become... I think Williams was faster than our AMR25, but if it hadn't been for the VSC mode, we probably would have finished in 9th and 10th places. Maybe even a little higher, depending on the results of the other teams' riders.
I hope that the innovations introduced in Imola will also work in Monaco and Barcelona. The Monaco circuit is unique in its own way, after which we will have the Spanish Grand Prix, and in Barcelona the new FIA requirements regarding the rigidity of the front wings will come into force, so I hope that we will continue to progress."
