Danner: The situation inside Ferrari is getting tense
After a disastrous qualifying, when none of the Ferrari drivers could make it to the final session, the team managed to improve somewhat on Sunday, after all, Lewis Hamilton finished 4th, and Charles Leclair took 6th place.
After the race, Frederic Wasser said that "in all the last three or four stages of the championship, there was a very noticeable difference between qualifying speed and race pace." Moreover, the head of the Scuderia actually admitted that the team could not yet explain the reason for this phenomenon, and other people who were more or less informed about the mood inside Ferrari were saying the same thing.
According to Christian Danner, a former Formula 1 racer and now an expert at the Austrian edition of Motorsport Magazin, the problem is related to the suspension of the SF-25 car: the front suspension is based on traction, and pushrods are used in the rear, as before.
"Because of this, the front and rear axles are not working consistently enough," he said, "which in turn leads to tire problems, especially in single-lap mode. And at the race distance, the picture gradually becomes more balanced.
But it seems that Ferrari has even more serious difficulties, and I'm curious to see if Maranello will make any fundamental changes to the suspension during the season, and how big they can be. It is possible that they will even decide to take a step back.
I think the situation inside Ferrari is becoming more and more tense... definitely, Vasseur is under severe pressure from Tifosi, the Italian press and the management of the Ferrari company. They don't expect explanations from him, but results. They just tell him: "You got everything you wanted, and what do we see? More precisely, we don't see it – if we talk about the results."
I think Frederick is already getting nervous, because he already feels the first signs of the fate that befell Maurizio Arrivabene and others."
Everyone noticed that, unlike Ferrari, in Imola, both Williams drivers qualified for the finals, and at the end of the Grand Prix, Alex Elbon took a higher place than Charles Leclair.
"I think the Ferrari is still a bit faster than the Williams,– Danner stressed. – But the British team, of course, has pulled itself up to the leaders – at least it is ahead of all its immediate rivals. Everyone at Williams is in a great mood right now, and when I walked past the team's boxes, it was nice to see how happy they were that something was starting to work out again."
