Ben Sulayem's statement on social media insults

FIA President Mohammed bin Sulayem issued a statement in connection with the insults against Yuki Tsunoda, which he was subjected to on social media by fans of Franco Colapinto.

The Japanese Red Bull Racing driver appealed to the Formula 1 management with a request to take action, and the reason for the attacks on him was a small incident during the first Friday practice session in Imola, when Colapinto prevented Tsunoda on the track, after which he was rightly outraged.

The Argentine, who now plays for Alpine F1, was aware of what was happening and publicly urged his fans to behave with restraint and respect.

Of course, the FIA president, in his statement distributed via social media, stressed that none of the drivers should be subjected to such insults.

"Motorsport is based on competition, passion and determination, and when drivers take to the track, they always represent these values. The passion and admiration that our sport evokes should unite us all, and it should never come to insults or hatred.

I wholeheartedly support Yuki Tsunoda and Franco Colapinto and thank them for speaking out against the growing problem of such insults on social media.

No one should be subjected to threats, hatred or discrimination. There should be no place for insults and hostility in our community. Through a general campaign against insults on social media, we are taking drastic measures – drawing attention to this problem, providing support and calling for changes.

We intend to protect the peace and well-being of everyone in our sport, and together we can create a safer and more respectful environment."
