Morocco would like to adopt Formula 1
In Monaco, Formula 1 boss Stefano Domenicali said he was in talks with three African countries about hosting the Grand Prix. South Africa and Rwanda are known to want to participate in the struggle for independence, and now it has become known that the Moroccan authorities are ready to join them.
Morocco has already hosted a Formula 1 stage – the national Grand Prix was held in 1958, and in the 2010s Bernie Ecclestone spoke with the King of Morocco about the return of the race to the calendar, but then the parties could not agree, and now the situation has changed.
There is also a highway in the large port city of Tangier, which is not difficult to reach from Europe. It has licenses allowing it to host Formula 1, WEC and MotoGP races, a theme park, a shopping mall, hotels and a marina.
Eric Boullier, former director of the McLaren and Lotus teams, is behind the project, and later served as director of the French Grand Prix when the stage was on the calendar from 2018 to 2022.
No decisions have been made yet. If the parties decide to hold the race, a long stage of negotiations will follow.
